Press Release:

ZTE Constructs WCDMA Network in Libya

Press Release
News Article  November 2006

2006-10-19

Commercial subscribers reach 100 thousand

ZTE, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, is helping Libyana, the largest mobile operator in Libya to construct a WCDMA network. Upon completion, the network will have a capacity of 1 million lines and covers most of the country’s population over 14 main cities, including the capital Tripoli.

To date, over 100,000 subscribers have pre-registered for the network. The network, supporting HSDPA, can provide 3G services such as MMS, streaming media, Java downloads, video-conferencing and POC.

"According to GSA, there are 112 WCDMA networks deployed in 49 countries around the world with over 70 million commercial subscribers. For any operator, winning customers is the key to profit," said Fang Hui, ZTE GM of WCDMA products.

"ZTE’s WCDMA solutions feature high rate, high efficiency, high-end data solutions, and low CAPEX, low OPEX and low-cost voice solutions, which can help operators deploy networks quickly and win more customers, thus bringing the network quickly into profit."

The WCDMA network built by ZTE for Libyana uses a range of R4-based WCDMA V3 products that the company has developed in-house to achieve integration of 2G and 3G networks. All the networking equipment products are designed on an integrated all-IP hardware platform which has achieved all-IP switching and separation of control from load. The fact that network elements share a single board ensures consistency, reliability and sustainability in the hardware system and avoids the need to deploy multiple platforms for numerous network elements.
