Algeria: Abdelhak M. Yacine has been appointed Director General of Autorite de Regulation des Postes et Telecommunications (ARPT), replacing Fodil Benyelles, who has retired.
18 January 2012:
South Africa: Vodacom Group has announced that Ivan Dittrich has been appointed as its Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, joining the Group on or about 1 July 2012.
17 January 2012:
Burkina Faso: ARCEP hosted 40 participants from Francophone Africa 9-13 January 2012 to better manage domain names in Ouagadougou. Better control of the management of domain names as well as national frequencies and addresses with numbers was called for, as they are not inexhaustible.

Bahrain: The TRA has issued what it describes as ‘the most developed Telecommunications Consumer Protection Guidelines in the region’, revealing TRA’s vision with regard to the protection of consumers’ interests in accordance with the Telecommunications Law.

Mauritania: The Autorité de Régulation is calling for tenders for the publication, in Arabic and French, of a telephone directory of subscribers and operators.
Egypt: OTH open for business - Orascom Telecom completed its demerger on Tuesday and has returned to the Egyptian Stock Exchange after having its trading suspended since 24 November 2011.
